How To Keep The World From Getting In Your Head (4 steps)

1 John 4:4:  Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Because of the internet, the world’s voice seems so much louder and bolder than ever before.  It’s harder to protect our children from the deception of the world like we once could and those lies can tear us down too.  Don’t let the world get in your head.  Don’t let it worry you and get you down.  Don’t listen to the dishonesty.  Satan wants to keep us from God and will do whatever he can to prevent our family from being healthy and godly.  Satan is a liar and a destroyer.  And you don’t have to look very far to see his impact on the world.  People are angry because they are not getting what they want fast enough.  They are hateful, demanding, critical, and deceitful.  The hostility and animosity in the world is not very discreet but is there for all to see, beckoning us to follow.  But we are to live differently by showing humility, gentleness, and patience.  God has given us gifts to build up the body of Christ and to encourage each other.  We are not to be like we were before we were saved.  Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander be put away from you along with all malice.  Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.  By living intentionally and focusing on God, we can not only prevent the world from discouraging us but we can influence the world around us.  It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a christian, we all have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of us and He can work in our lives so that we can be a light in a dark world.

Ephesians 6:12:  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

1. Be Humble

Living a humble life means to live a selfless life of serving others. Considering others as better than ourselves.  Look for ways to show your husband and your children that they are loved. They are the most vital people in your life so think of ways everyday to show them that they matter and they’re important.  Also, look at other people in your family ~ people you have contact with regularly ~ people in your church ~ and people at the grocery store, bank etc.  How can you be a blessing to them? Whether it’s a note, a gift, reaching out to show you care, praying for them, meeting a need they have or simply making eye contact and smiling.  Be genuine ~ be kind ~ be encouraging.  This is humility and it’s significant.  The world can be as loud and as obnoxious as they want, but we are not like the world.  We are different!

1 Timothy 2:1-8:  First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may live a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.  For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.  I desire that in every place men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.

2.  Be Smart

Spend time everyday in God’s word and memorize scripture.  We are from God and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19).  If we are grounded in the word of God, the temptation to be caught up with society will cease.  God will never ask us to do anything that will go against His word so we need to diligently renew our minds by daily reading the bible.  Get into the habit of looking to God and spending time with Him. Devote yourself to prayer.   He desires to have a relationship with us and that will come if we actively seek Him.  God is always there and He is waiting for us.  Know God.  Know His word.  Be smart!

James 4:7:  Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

3.  Be Bold

We can be confident in loving our husbands and boldly teach our children the truth of God’s word.  Stand firm in the faith by loving God and others.  Our courage and strength will outshine the world and point others to the Messiah.  Continue to do God’s will regardless of any hardships we may face.  Be bold and do what is right by fiercely loving your family and those in your community.

Ephesians 6:10-11:  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

4.  Be prepared

Jesus is coming soon so we must be prepared.  Don’t let the world and the things of this world distract you from what is really important.  Jesus will come, there’s no doubt about that, but we are too busy to let the voice of the world get in our way.  Our family needs us to love them and bring them to God.  There are people all around us who need our prayers and our encouragement.  Fight the good fight and run the race to win.  It doesn’t matter what other people are saying or what they’re doing, God is what matters.  He’s the most important and He is doing amazing things.  And we can be apart of it.  Our almighty God wants to have a relationship with us and He wants to use us to bless others and glorify Him.  Others will see that we are not like most people and will desire to know the truth.  We must be prepared to give an answer to every person wanting to know what’s true, also.  Be prepared.

1 Corinthians 16:13:  Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

That’s not to say that we’re to let people hurt us and our family.  It’s okay to protect our family by being firm on how we are treated or to let go of relationships that continue to cross boundaries without any concern for the people injured in their wake.  This too can be a significant way to point people to God.

I hope this post was as encouraging for you to read as it was for me to study and write.  We currently live in a unique time and we’re called to impact the world for Christ instead of joining them.  Maybe we’re put here during this moment of history for such a time as this!
