Money Madness

With the rising cost of everything, it can be difficult to make ends meet, especially if you’re living on one income.  Even if there is more than one income in the family, it’s still difficult.

I don’t have any cool life changing stories about our finances (actually I have a lot of cool stories on how God provided for us but no getting debt free in a year stories etc.)  Hopefully, I will before we retire but as of now, I don’t.  But I wanted to share some money saving tips and ideas that are good reminders for me and probably for you too.

I’m not a money expert by any stretch of the imagination but I have been thinking about our finances a lot lately.  We’ve always had to be creative with our finances, missionary training, living on one income, and with the added medical cost of T1D and our retirement not that far away, money is on my mind.  So I’m going to share what I’ve learned and hope it will help someone else too.

In no particular order, here are some money tips:

~ Live within your means

Pretty much don’t spend more than you make.  Keep track of your spending and create a budget.  As annoying or scary this may seem, it’s important and helpful.  Even if you have a very healthy money tree growing in your backyard, it’s crucial to know where your money goes.

~ Live debt free

It’s easy to get into the habit of buying now and figuring out how to pay it later.  I tell my children (and myself too), if you don’t have the money, then don’t buy it.  Most of the time we end up buying things we don’t want or need anyway.  The marketing specialists are super good at making us feel like we need more than we actually do.

~ Live on a budget

Write out a budget and tell your money where to go.  Pay attention to what you spend your money on each week, write a budget and stick to it.  Money tends to disappear without a budget.

~ Save your money

Put at least a little bit of money into savings each pay check.   When we were in missionary training, we didn’t have an income and had to live on whatever money we brought with us and support from others.  It was tough!  God provided all the money we needed to get through 4+ years of missionary training, including having 3 children.

But during the Missions Training (Boot Camp) in 1998, every time I had a dollar bill or change, I would put it in a random can we had sitting around.  This part of the training lasted a year and for the whole year, I put all of our dollar bills and change in this can.

When we graduated at the end of the year, we wondered if we’d have enough money to drive back home (from Oregon to Arizona.)  I dumped all the money out of the coffee can and counted our change ~ I had saved $80! I was shocked!  I had no idea I put that much in the can throughout the year.  I figured it was just pennies in there.  Scott didn’t even know I had done that.  Nice surprise.

It’s also good to have money saved for an emergency.  A little bit each pay check adds up faster than you realize.

~ Invest your money

I was always under the impression that it was risky investing your money.  I thought only the super rich did this because it wasn’t that big of a deal if they lost their money.  I don’t know where that mindset came from but I learned a few years ago that this thinking is a lie.  There is a safe way to invest your money that gives a higher interest rate than any savings or money market account.

This is something you would do long term so even if the market fluctuated here and there, you’d still be heading upward.

I’m not confident enough to dig deeper in this but we have a great financial advisor from our church who has helped us tremendously in this area.  If you live in Arizona ~ I can hook you up!  😀

~ Give

Giving to the Lord, giving to those in need and giving to missionaries is the best way to demonstrate faith, trust and love.  God wants us to give Him our first and our best.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.  In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.  Genesis 4:2-5

Abel gave the Lord the fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.  He gave the Lord the first and the best.  Cain did not!  We know how that story ended.

A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

I know there is a lot more I could say but keeping it simple is best for me when it comes to finances.  This is something on my heart so I thought I’d share my thoughts.  This has helped our family and I hope it blesses you too.

Health and Wellness Tip

A good way to get extra vegetables in your diet is to blend them up in a food processor and put them in your meals.  Include blended up broccoli, carrots and spinach in your spaghetti, beans, pizza sauce, noodles, gravy or whatever you make.  This will add nutrients to everyday meals.  I’ve even added them to desserts too.  If I blend them well enough, no one even notices. 😉

Thank you for reading my blog!  I’d love to hear what you think.  Please share any money tips you have or if you have a cool story about how you became debt free, I’d love to hear about it!

Have a wonderful day and be blessed!

Healthy Happy #MomLife

When your health is down in the dumps and you’re miserable and can’t function, it’s natural to tell everyone you know when you find something that drastically turns your life around.

That’s what happened to me!  I’ve had a lot of health issues my whole adult life, which has taken a lot of prayer, hard work and doctor appointments to keep me alive and stable.

CHECK OUT MY STORY HERE

The last 6 years I have dealt with a lot of bladder infections due to a blocked kidney and two kidney surgeries which also causes infections.  With infections comes a lot of antibiotics.  A lot of antibiotics causes a lot of side effects, symptoms and a stressed out body.

 Unhappy body = unhappy mama!

Which, unfortunately, affects the whole family.

I spent our summer break searching for answers and products to help me.  I couldn’t find anything to relieve my symptoms.  I knew what I was looking for and I knew what I didn’t want, but I struggled.

Then all of a sudden, when I least expected it, I found exactly what I was looking for when it fell in my lap unexpectedly!

I got a hold of some samples, thanks to my friend, and within three hours of taking it, I FELT SO MUCH BETTER!

If you’re wondering what I took, it’s called Plexus Slim.  It sounds like a weight loss drink.  It is and it’s not.  You see, it has probiotics and prebiotics, green coffee bean extract, garcinia cambogia fruit extract, mulberry fruit extract and more good, healing ingredients.  It has NO artificial colors, flavors, sugar, caffeine, or chemicals.  It’s sweetened with stevia and colored with beet root.  Yes beets!!  It helps heal and balance the gut, it helps control the blood sugar (even people don’t have blood sugar issues can have blood sugar issues without even knowing it), and helps control hunger and cravings.

It’s delicious and it works.  I bought the entire TriPlex combo which includes 3 products.  The Slim which I just told you about, the BioCleanse which is good at cleaning out the gut and liver of toxins, and ProBio 5 which is a super duper powerful probiotic.  It’s the best I found with probiotics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes.

Having an imbalance in our blood sugar can be harmful to our overall health.  Having an imbalance in our gut can cause all kinds of problems, symptoms and diseases.  I’ve lived it and I’ve seen it, which is why I am so excited about starting our family on Plexus.

I’ve learned a lot about gut health over the years in dealing with severe candida caused by high doses of Prednisone that destroyed my health.

I SHARE MY STORY ON YOUTUBE

Plus, all five of our children had a lot of food allergies growing up (Scott and I did too!)  When we had them cleared with acupuncture, three of them had their food allergies come back 2 weeks later.  We had them rechecked, re-cleared and our doctor gave them digestive enzymes and probiotics to prevent it from coming back again.

Check out my blog ~”How I Cured My Food Allergies”

Probiotics also help our son with Type 1 Diabetes keep his blood sugar stable.  Without them, his blood sugar monitor looks like a roller coaster ride.  Gut health is essential!

Check out my blog about his diabetes ~ “The Diagnoses ~ Forever Changed”

It’s so important for us moms (or anyone for that matter) to stay on top of our health.  It doesn’t do our family any good if we’re sick, tired, can’t think clearly, or have symptoms that distract us from being our best.

Of course, it can’t always be helped.  There are a lot of sick mamas out there who are doing their best and fighting for their lives.  It’s a full time job to stay healthy sometimes.

If you listened to my story, you know that I’m right there too.

I know some who are so working hard for good health who end up just maintaining poor health (ME!)  All that work, all that money, all those prayers, and they’re just barely coping.

Plexus isn’t a magic cure-all that fixes everything.  It isn’t intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.  But it has potent ingredients that help with gut health, blood sugar, detoxification, and weight loss.  There is none like it!

As always ~ if you have any concerns ~ research the ingredients or check with your doctor before trying Plexus.

It’s amazing and it works.  Because I’m seeing great changes in my life and my family’s life, I’m spreading the word and getting my story out there.

Before I bought the TriPlex Combo, I researched every single ingredient to make sure we weren’t allergic to it.  Since, I wasn’t familiar with some of the contents, I made a list of the ingredients and then searched what they are used for.  The more I looked, the more impressed I became.

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.  Proverbs 31:17

I still have a long road of recovery ahead of me but it’s been two weeks and my bad days now are better than my good days without Plexus.

I know how hard it is to have health issues while taking care of your family.  I want to get my story out there so that I can help others with their health journey as well.

It’s affordable, it works, it’s healthy, and worth exploring.  My Plexus website will show retail prices.  Ask me how to get significant discounts and how this may help you and your family.

If you’ve been reading my blogs for very long, it probably wouldn’t surprise you that my gift is encouraging ~ not selling.

Being an ambassador with Plexus means that I’m promoting health and wellness by educating, and coaching women toward good health and determining which products would benefit them the most.  I hope to bless other moms and bless my family since we’re all taking these products and improving.

I’m so excited to feel so much better in the last two weeks and I just wanted to get my story out there.

I have a lot of precious people who need me at my best!

Please share your story of healing and health!  I’d love to hear from you!

Be a Risk Taker

Our high school youth pastor used to always encourage us to take risks and step out of our comfort zone.  He would make us talk to people we didn’t know, share our faith when it was hard, and sit by someone new.

He said to watch God work in our lives and look out for God’s miracles regularly.

This really made an impression on me and I still think about this many years later.

I’m not always a risk taker.  Sometimes I’m just a mom who is constantly cooking, cleaning, and breaking up fights.

What does taking risks look like when you’re a busy mom trying to care for the needs of your family?

Why is it important?

BEING  LESS BUSY

Being a mom is busy.  Period.  You start adding more children, homeschooling, cleaning, cooking, shopping, organizing, feeding, activities, work, plus all the people wanting you to volunteer for this and that, it makes being a mom overwhelming.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30

Why do we fill up our calendars?

If we aren’t careful with how we spend our time and what we say yes to, we can obliterate our family, not to mention ourselves.

Being a risk taker doesn’t mean being busy and cluttering our calendars. Put your family first and focus on what God has called you to do.

That’s called being a risk taker.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”  Luke 10: 41-42

BEING STILL

Be quiet and still before the Lord.  Get in the habit of listening to His voice.  Be a risk taker and listen to what God says to you.  He may ask you to be still and wait or He may ask you to take a daring leap of faith.  You won’t know if you don’t listen.  It’s harder to trust Him if you can’t hear Him.

~ Spend time with Him

~ Meditate on His Word

~ Pray often

~ Listen

“Be still, and know that I am God;  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46: 10

BEING DIFFERENT

We are all unique.  We have different stories ~ different callings and different gifts.  We are not suppose to be like everyone else or try to impress or please others.

Being a risk taker means that you’re not afraid to be bold and unique by using the gifts God has given you.

There are a couple of reasons why I continue to blog even though everyone and their sister is doing the same thing I am~ only better.

It’s because no one has my story and my perspective.

Also because I feel led to put something positive on the internet that may potentially bless and help others.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.  If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.  Romans 12: 6-8

BEING AVAILABLE

We need to be available to our family.  Be there for our husband and children.  We need to watch and listen, being aware of their likes, dislikes, their fears and concerns.  We need to love them.

I read posts from so many women who write online that they’re unhappy.  They’re bored and unfulfilled at home.  They’re depressed and stressed out at work.  They’re annoyed with their husbands.  They’re desperate for a break from their children so they can have a life of their own.  They’re just overwhelmed with their life.

While I’m all for taking breaks and self care, I also feel like some have lost their way and aren’t being available to the needs of their family.  It’s not an easy task and you probably won’t get any praise or accolades (except for Mother’s Day and Birthdays, of course).  But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB ON THE PLANET!

Read: One Important Key To Being A Good Mom

Being available to your family is the most important job, the most rewarding job and the most influential job ~ HANDS DOWN!

Can I be transparent and share that I fail at this?  I do fail but I also don’t give up.  I just pick myself up and continue to move forward, trusting in God daily.

We’re not going to be perfectly available all the time like some Stepford Wife but we can make an effort to be present.

Take that risk and BE AVAILABLE to your family!

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.  Proverbs 31:12

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.  Proverbs 14:1

BEING A RISK TAKER

No one knows when they’re going to take their last breath.  Our time on earth is fleeting.  Take a risk for the Lord.  Dare to be bold.  Share Christ with others.  Make a difference in other people’s lives.  Be kind.  Be diligent.  Be encouraging.  LOVE.  Live a life of obedience and bring honor to God.  Don’t wait until you can do things perfectly.  There’s no time.  God has a plan for our lives and it’s time to be that risk taker and do life like no other.

You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.  And love your neighbor as yourself.  Luke 10:27

Share your story on how you took a risk and God showed Himself to you.  I’d love to hear from you.

Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog and share this with others.  Have a wonderful and blessed day.

Satisfaction ~ Contentment ~ Blessings

When stress ~ difficulties ~ obstacles ~ and unhappiness ~ start to wear on you, it’s natural to start feeling depressed and down.

Looking to the Lord and meditating on God’s word every day will help ease the pressure from life’s circumstances.

Our daughter and grandson live in another state and I was sure that we’d some how see them often, especially with all the technology, and travel that seem to shorten the miles.

But when things come up over and over that prevent us seeing or talking to them, I feel like I get the wind knocked out of me.  I start lacking contentment because I want our whole family together.

(I jump on this pretty quickly as I know without a shadow of a doubt that no matter what I want ~ I am already extremely blessed!)

It may seem like a small thing to some people but sometimes the little things are a big deal when you’re going through it yourself.

NO GUILT ~ LIFE HAPPENS ~  LIFE CAN GET YOU DOWN

When this occurs, no matter what challenges or disappointments we face, it’s essential to keep looking to and trusting in the Lord.

I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.  That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.  I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.  Ecclesiastes 3: 12-14

God will never leave us nor forsake us.  He wants a relationship with us and for us to look to Him and spend time with Him.

Contentment comes from the Lord and it’s something that is missing in our society.  In order to market products (or ideas) effectively, companies try to convince us that we need to buy their stuff ~ or way of life ~ in order to be content and happy.

READ MY BLOG: How To Keep The World From Getting In Your Head

Although we all know better than to believe that lie, it can still catch us off guard and cause doubt and unhappiness.

REMEMBER GOD!

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU.”  Hebrews 13:5

I Will Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving in My Heart

I wrote this blog before Hurricane Harvey and wondered if I should post this blog today or wait.  After praying about it, I decided to go ahead and post it.

I’m praying for healing, protection, and blessings for all the victims, survivors, the relief workers, volunteers and their families.  I am praying for Texas.

Lord, please give the people in Texas and their families strength, hope and courage to move forward after this tragedy.   Please heal them, protect them, and bless them.  In Jesus Name ~ AMEN.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His name.  Psalm 100:4

Grumbling and criticizing is so common and popular these days.  Especially with the internet so willing to listen and sympathize.

Sarcasm is spewed and it’s cool to have just the right comeback to make sure everyone does and says what they’re suppose to.

I am guilty of grumbling and complaining and was convicted by two things.

1 ~ I was convicted when I decided to stop complaining for a New Year’s Resolution.

See my blog ~ 4 New Year’s Resolutions that will change your life ~

2 ~ I was made aware when my bad habits were mirrored in our children.  YIKES!

The reason why I thought about writing about THANKFULNESS isn’t because I want to throw everyone under the bus.

God has done a work in my heart regarding gratitude but sometimes my “inner brat” still rears its ugly head.  I want to trust God to change my heart!

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.  1 Chronicles 16:34

We live in a demanding and self-centered world which can be very annoying AND CONTAGIOUS.

Let’s focus on the Lord and be thankful for His love for us.

Give thanks in all circumstances~ for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Focusing on the positive things in each circumstance with appreciation will nurture a healthy habit and bring glory to God.  It will also teach our children about humility and contentment.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  Colossians 3:17

All that we do, is to be done for the glory of God.  If we are complaining, then we are not thankful or bringing glory to God.  Seek God first and He will make everything right.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.  James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from God.  Look for those gifts and be thankful.  We should expect God to work in our hearts.  Watch for those moments when He is doing great things and giving perfect gifts.

The greatest gift of all is Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and rising from the dead so that we can have a relationship with God and have eternal life.

We are not to be troubled, burdened or afraid.  God is our strength and our shield.  Our trust should be in Him.

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.  Psalm 107:1

If the temptation to complain is significant ~ try being thankful instead. Memorize verses about being thankful and write down everything in your life you are thankful for.  This will put you in the habit of being grateful instead.

If it’s still a struggle or you’re seeing discontentment and unhappiness in your children ~ (trust me ~ I get it) ~ there are ways to encourage a positive attitude:

~ Read the book of Job as a family.

~ Have your children write and draw about what they’re thankful for.

~ Think of ways that you as a family can help others in need or do something nice for someone else.

~ Read stories about missionaries, heroes or how people overcome their struggles in life here or in other countries.

Here are a few craft ideas to show thankfulness:

~ Cut out fall leaves on construction paper and have the kids write something they’re thankful for and paste it on a homemade tree.

~ Get a pumpkin and every day have the kids write something they’re thankful for on the pumpkin.

~ Get smooth rocks and have the kids write what they’re thankful for and then display it somewhere so they will see it and remember. (Joshua 4)

~ What have you done as a family to show thankfulness or kindness?

Please share!
